The Society has much to offer its members through a solid professional development network tailored to the needs of health and physical education professionals in state departments of education. Despite what the name suggests, our members do not have to be "directors." Any state department of education employee who works in health and physical education is eligible for regular membership. Many current members are also DASH (the Centers for Disease Control, Division of Adolescent and School Health) grantees in HIV and School Health Program funded positions. The Society offers associate membership for any professional who is interested in the goals of the Society but does not work within a state department of education. Many of our associate members work for state departments of health, national non-governmental organizations, and universities.
One of the major benefits of membership is the opportunity to connect with state department of education personnel who are not funded through CDC-DASH programs. This enables members to have rich and meaningful discussions about the state of health and physical education across the country. The Society provides the opportunity to stay current on what is happening in the environment surrounding K-12 health and physical education and coordinated school health programs.
